16 Days of Activism — Prevention of Family Violence

The 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence gives the community a voice to stand together and prevent family violence.

Taking place from Monday 25 November to Tuesday 10 December, the campaign asks Victorians to safely take action when witnessing everyday sexism, discrimination and inequality.

Most people want to take action, they just don't know how. That’s why we are hosting Active Bystander Training with the City of Stonnington on Tuesday 10 December in Prahran.

This training includes:

  • challenging behaviour that reinforces sexist beliefs and stereotypes
  • safely intervening when witnessing disrespect
  • having conversations with friends, family and colleagues.

It’s a free event, but bookings are essential.

We will also be supporting conversations with a footpath sticker messaging campaign and displays of books challenging gender stereotypes throughout our libraries. This year’s campaign is also being led by Municipal Association of Victoria and is tied to Respect Victoria’s Respect Women: ‘Call It Out’ campaign.

If you or someone you know is impacted by sexual assault or family violence, call 1800RESPECT on 1800 737 732 or visit 1800RESPECT.org.au - in an emergency, call 000.
