Bentleigh Eat Street

We're excited to announce that Bentleigh Eat Street, the suburb's first public space project, is underway. This follows the adoption of the Bentleigh Structure Plan in February 2018.

Key elements

Bentleigh Eat Street envisages a pedestrian-friendly mall area with outdoor seating, activated by cafes, restaurants and bars. We're also redesigning the existing rotunda and road configurations of Vickery Street to add depth to the linear retail strip.

We want the new Eat Street to be an inviting green space with large canopy trees and outdoor seating. We're also aiming to grow Bentleigh's emerging cafe and restaurant culture, which supports an increased retail presence.

What have we heard so far?

While developing the Bentleigh Structure Plan, we completed six stages of community consultation. You showed strong support for Eat Street, calling for more passive community spaces to sit, rest and gather. You also suggested that the project would create a heart which Bentleigh currently doesn't have.

For more information on what you've said so far, read our summary of the Bentleigh Plaza redesign community feedback.

Have your say

We've created a concept design for you to view. To offer your feedback, please make a submission by Sunday 3 March.

To discuss the concept design in more detail, visit the Bentleigh Rotunda at the following sessions:

  • Wednesday 13 February 2019, 11am-1pm
  • Thursday 21 February 2019, 12pm-2pm

For further information, contact our City Futures Department on 9524 3333.

How long will the project take?

We're delivering the Bentleigh Eat Street project all together, rather than a staged process as initially planned.

We'll complete detailed designs this year and we anticipate to start construction in early 2020.
