Safe Cycling Corridor pilot

In early 2019, we engaged with residents on the opportunity for a Safe Cycling Corridor along Inkerman Road in Caulfield North.

During this consultation, we heard a range of views, including the need for more information. We have listened to this feedback and undertaken an exploration of four alternative route options for the corridor, collected in a Safe Cycling Corridor Pilot Corridor Assessment Report.

The Report contains information on four route options which could provide residents with a cycle connection into the CBD. These are:

  • Dandenong Road
  • Inkerman Road – Alma Road (two-way)
  • Alma Road eastbound and Inkerman Road westbound (one-way)
  • Inkerman Road

These options have been assessed against three criteria:

  • Safety for Cyclists
  • Impact on the Neighbourhood
  • Feasibility of Construction

The criteria have been further broken down into a range of sub-criteria, with significant data gathered against each, including traffic counts, current use by cyclists, number of crashes recorded along each route, the levels of parking demand and more.

Consultation on the Safe Cycling Corridor pilot closed on 14 October 2019. Feedback is now being collated.
