The Draft Urban Forest Strategy is a plan to protect, enhance and grow Glen Eira’s Urban Forest. Council recognises the important role it plays in community health and wellbeing, environmental sustainability, liveability and urban character. During this engagement, we asked our community to reflect on the draft strategy and identify any opportunities, areas for refinement and things we missed.
Nearly 100 community members provided their feedback on the Draft Urban Forest Strategy via activities on Glen Eira Have Your Say and email submissions. Most frequently mentioned themes were that there should be higher tree canopy cover targets and greater protection of trees from developments, and suitable locations for additional tree planting.
We are exploring the implications of seeking higher tree canopy targets, finding out what it would take and what targets would be achievable. Implementation of the Urban Forest Strategy will require collaboration and resources across the whole of Council. This piece of work will inform further discussions with Council and the community.
