Communications and Engagement Officer

  • Play a lead role in planning and delivering communication and engagement activities
  • Full time, Permanent role
  • $87K - $95K per annum + superannuation

About the Role
In this role you are responsible for the planning development and delivery of community and stakeholder engagement plans for a variety of city shaping projects relating to strategic planning, transport, economic development and placemaking. You will work closely with the Coordinator Communication and Engagement City Futures, and community engagement staff across the organisation, following IAP2 methodology to deliver best practice engagement for the Council and the community.

Day-to-day duties will include:

  • Play a key role in the forward planning, project management and implementation of communications and engagement activities for City Futures.
  • Plan, develop and deliver communications and engagement strategies.
  • Build and maintain trusted and influential relationships with community and external stakeholders.
  • Write reports on the outcomes of community engagement campaigns for the project team and Councillor group, as well as other campaign-related material including emails, letters, newsletters and articles for Glen Eira News.
  • Coordinate and organise community engagement events. This includes coordinating logistics across various locations, preparation of run sheets, presentations and speaker notes.

About you
We are looking for someone who is proactive, efficient and team oriented with exceptional communication skills and attention to detail.

You will have a passion for people and enjoy connecting, networking and engaging with others. You will also have the ability to communicate and collaborate with a diverse range of people, building strong rapport and trusted relationships along the way.

To be considered for this role, you must have:

  • An appropriate tertiary qualification in Public Policy, Social Sciences, Communications, Community Engagement or equivalent.
  • Knowledge and experience in designing and implementing a range of community engagement models and techniques.
  • A reputation for successfully managing high profile strategic stakeholder relations issues within complex and sensitive project environments.
  • Extensive experience in digital platforms the application of social media and digital technologies.


  • Certificate in Engagement from the International Association of Public Participation (IAP2).
  • Skilled in the use of the Adobe Design Suite.
