Permanent heritage controls given the green light for former ABC site
Published on 26 October 2018
Glen Eira City Council has received authorisation from the Minister for Planning to commence a Planning Scheme Amendment process for proposed permanent heritage controls at the former ABC site at 8 Gordon Street Elsternwick. However, Council is still waiting on a decision from the Minister for Planning on urgent, interim heritage protection — immediate interim protection is vital given how lengthy the Planning Scheme Amendment process is.
A recent independent heritage review confirmed that the site is of national, state and local cultural heritage significance.
The planning controls sought by Council seek retention of the important buildings on the site, as well as the internal studios and other elements.
The planning controls will be publicly exhibited through a formal Planning Scheme Amendment process in November 2018, providing an opportunity for the community and stakeholders to make a formal submission.
