Community Safety Month

Community Safety Month is held every October and encourages people to look at ways in which they can improve safety in their homes, work, schools and communities.

Initiated in 1996 by the Victorian Safe Communities Network, Community Safety Month aims to promote awareness about a broad range of safety matters, including crime prevention; cyber safety; reducing harm from gambling, alcohol or drugs; personal safety; safe work practices; and family violence prevention.

Council-run activities to be held as part of Community Safety Month include:

Sporting clubs seminar

Monday 8 October, 6.30pm–8.15pm
Duncan Mackinnon Reserve

Love the Game Not the Odds, the Good Sports Program and SALT Sport and Life Training will provide support to clubs to create healthy environments, reduce gambling, drug and alcohol problems. Bookings are essential. To book, visit https://www.trybooking.com/422984

Three Sides of the Coin creative workshop

Thursday 11 October, 5.30pm–6.30pm
Caulfield Park Pavilion

Scams and travelling conmen

Monday 15 October, 1.30pm–2.30pm
Caulfield Park Pavilion

A session for senior citizens to raise awareness of scams and how to protect yourself. Bookings are essential by Friday 12 October. Contact Council’s Service Centre on 9524 3333.

Community organisations, schools, groups and individuals are also encouraged to host and/or participate in events that promote safety in Glen Eira.
