Community engagement

Glen Eira City Council welcomes community ideas, input and feedback. We want to strengthen relationships and build a better understanding of community needs and views to help us make informed and transparent decisions.

To do this successfully and consistently across our various services and projects, we have developed a Community Engagement Strategy. The Strategy was endorsed by Council at its meeting on 22 May 2018.

This document outlines a process for how Council will conduct community engagement activities, and explains how our community can be involved in decisions about matters that are important to them.

Our model for community engagement has been adapted from the International Association for Public Participation (IAP2) and shows four interconnected elements that outline our approach:

Community EngagementDesign
Understand context, define scope and set clear purpose.
Identify stakeholders and define level of influence

Plan
Select methods and sequence
Prepare engagement plan

Do
Implement the plan
Inform decision-making and report back

Review
Evaluate community engagement process
Build knowledge and learn

How we use this model to deliver on our promise to the community is discussed further in the Strategy.

There is also a Community Engagement Policy which sits alongside the Strategy. The Policy was endorsed by Council on 17 October 2017 and outlines Council’s vision, commitment and aims of engagement across the Glen Eira community
