Problems with possums

Like all other native animals, possums are protected under the Wildlife Act 1975.

They must not be harmed in any way or kept without an authority from the Department of Environment and Primary Industries.

Handling and the removal of possums

It is illegal to handle or interfere with possums except when they are in your roof or other buildings.

Possums should only be trapped by a licensed wildlife controller.

We do not supply possum cages or collect or catch possums from residents’ homes.

If you have a nuisance possum and would like to arrange for someone to come and assist you in their removal, then type in ‘possums’ into the directory link below.

For further information, the Department of Environment and Primary Industries website has information on problem wildlife and living with possums.
