Initial contact with maternal and child health nurses
Expectant mothers are welcome to visit their local maternal and child health centre to meet the nurse.

Once the child's birth notification is received from the hospital, a nurse from the closest centre will contact the mother to make an appointment. The first appointment usually takes place in the mother's home and subsequent consultations are offered at the centre of her choice. Extra home visits can be arranged for parents with particular needs.

New mothers are welcome to contact a maternal and child health centre as soon as they get home from hospital.

If an appointment can't be kept, parents are asked to contact the maternal and child health centre nurse to reschedule their visit.

After hours service
Even after hours, help is just a phone call away. A maternal and child health 24-hour telephone service is available on 132 229.
