Rates and charges are levied on all rateable assessments in Glen Eira, to enable Council to continue to provide the services that are expected of it by the community. Council manages its finances in an open and accountable manner and complies with Australian Accounting Standards and State Government legislation.
Glen Eira City Council is one of few Victorian local governments which has achieved a debt-free financial position. Despite significant renewal and mainenance costs due to ageing infrastruture, cost shifting by both Federal and State Governments onto local government, and rises in service delivery costs, this Council continues to operate within its annual budget and offer the lowest day-to-day operating cost of any of its neighbouring councils.
