| The Victorian Health Act requires local governments to prepare a municipal public health plan every three years (section 29B). The legislation requires Council to develop a plan that must:
(a) identify and assess actual and potential public health dangers affecting the municipal district; and (b) outline programs and strategies which the council intends to pursue to (i) prevent or minimize those dangers; and (ii) enable people living in the municipal district to achieve maximum wellbeing; and (c) provide for periodic evaluation of programs and strategies.
The municipal public health plan must also be reviewed annually and amended accordingly.
Municipal public health plans play an important role in ensuring Council maintains its legislative responsibilities to prolong life and promote public health which are outlined in the Victorian Health Act. The plan also ensures that Council adopts a coordinated approach to public health issues by identifying community health and wellbeing needs, establishing clear health priorities and services to meet these priorities.
The Glen Eira Municipal Public Health Plan 2005-2008 brings together information gathered through consultation with the community, local health agencies and Council Business Units. As a result, the Municipal Public Health Plan is able to identify and respond to community health and wellbeing issues identified through local health planning processes undertaken by Council. | |
| Partnerships in community health | | Glen Eira City Council is an active member of Inner South East Partnership in Community and Health (ISEPICH), an alliance embodying more than 40 primary care organisations that are based in, or service the Cities of, Stonnington, Port Phillip and Glen Eira.
The ISEPICH member agencies have one common goal to improve the health and wellbeing of residents in the catchment area.
To develop strategies to achieve this goal, ISEPICH co-ordinated the development of the ISEPICH Community Health Plan. This community health plan has three priority action areas partnerships, service co-ordination, and an integrated service plan. The plan is available from the City of Port Phillip website
