| General information | | The Victorian Government provides a subsidy for children to attend one year of kindergarten the year prior to starting primary school. A child must be at least four-years-old by 30 April in the year they attend four-year-old kindergarten. Only one application form per child can be lodged. Please contact Council if you need to alter details, year or preferences. As each child develops at their own rate, parents are encouraged to consider whether their child will be ready to attend kindergarten. Your child may benefit from attending the following year. Your local kindergarten teacher, childcare co-ordinator, and Maternal and Child Health nurse are available to discuss your child’s readiness for kindergarten and other queries you may have. To assist with kindergarten readiness, please ensure your child has completed their 3-and-a-half-year-old check at your local Maternal and Child Health Centre prior to commencing kindergarten. Please contact your local Maternal and Child Health Nurse to arrange this check for your child. Children who have attended four-year-old kindergarten are generally better prepared to start school. | |

| Central enrolments | | Glen Eira City Council operates a central enrolment system for four-year-old community based kindergartens. Forms are available from Glen Eira City Council by telephone 9524 3333 or at your local kindergartens. Forms can also be downloaded below. Children who turn three-years-old between 1 May and the following 30 April can be enrolled anytime during that period. Top

 | All kindergartens operate with their own committee of management and they are keen to meet prospective parents and their children. Please contact your local kindergarten for session times, fees and organise a visit at a mutually convenient time. | | An application for four-year-old kindergarten enrolment form needs to be filled in for each child and lodged with Glen Eira City Council, along with the non refundable enrolment fee of $15 per child. | | Applications are taken in date of receipt order from 1 May. (If 1st May falls on a weekend, please submit your form on the following Monday.) Please ensure you submit your application early. Where applications are received on the same day they will be taken in birth date order. | | All applications will be acknowledged within a month. This is confirmation that your child is registered, not a guarantee of a place. | | Keep information up-to-date. Fill in an alteration of kindergarten enrolment application form for any variations to original application, eg, change of address, telephone number, preference, year of attendance. | | Where a parent requests a change of preference without a change of address, the priority date the application will be based upon is the date the change of preference request was received by Glen Eira City Council. | | Parents will be notified of their kindergarten by the committee of management. If your child does not obtain a place at the kindergarten of your first choice after two rounds of offers, you will be contacted and advised of waiting lists and vacancies. | | Where there is pressure for places, priority will be given to people who live, work, study or have childcare in the City of Glen Eira. You may be required to provide proof of address. |
