    Font Size

    Increasing Text Size

    You can follow the simple steps below to increase the text size for this website. It is however important to note that if you are using a computer other than your own at home, some of the methods below may not work due to the IT policies of shared computers. You can use the links below to jump to the content relevant to your browser.

    Internet Explorer 7
    Internet Explorer 7 has a zoom feature which allows you to enlarge the whole browser window.  To do this press 'Ctrl' + '+' to increase the zoom and 'Ctrl' + '-' to decrease the zoom.

    You can also increase the font size by:

    • Open the 'Page' menu with the mouse or by pressing 'Alt' + 'P'.
    • Select the 'Text Size' option with the mouse or by pressing 'X'.
    • Choose your preferred text size by clicking on it or by using the up and down arrow keys to select it and then press 'Enter'.

    Some websites have fixed the size of their text and as a result these websites will not show the change you have just made. If you would like to use larger text on these sites follow the following steps:

    • Click on the 'Tools' menu with the mouse or press 'Alt' + 'O'.
    • Click on 'Internet Options' option with the mouse or press 'O'. You should now see the 'Internet Options' box.
    • Click on the 'Accessibility' button with the mouse or press 'Alt' + 'E' .
    • In the Accessibility box click the 'Ignore font sizes specified on web page' checkbox to add a tick or press 'Alt' + 'Z' .
    • Click the 'OK' button to return to the Internet Options box.
    • Click on the 'OK' button, or press 'Tab' until 'OK' is selected and then press 'Enter' to return to Internet Explorer.

    Internet Explorer 5 / 6

    • Open the 'View' menu with the mouse or by pressing 'Alt' + 'V'.
    • Select the 'Text Size' option with the mouse or by pressing 'X'.
    • Choose your preferred text size with the mouse or by using the up and down arrow keys and pressing 'Enter' or by clicking on it.

    The text on our website should now have changed to reflect your choice.

    Some websites have fixed the size of their text and as a result these websites will not show the change you have just made. If you would like to use your larger text on these sites follow the following steps:

    • Click on the 'Tools' menu with the mouse or press 'Alt' + 'T'.
    • Click on 'Internet Options' option with the mouse or press 'O'. You should now see the 'Internet Options' box.
    • Click on the 'Accessibility' button with the mouse or press 'Alt' + 'E'.

    Follow these steps to increase or decrease the size of the text for the web page you are viewing:

    • Open the 'View' menu with the mouse or by press 'Alt' and 'V' at the same time.
    • Select the 'Text Size' option with the mouse or by pressing 'Z' .
    • Increase or decrease the text size with the mouse or by using the up and down arrow keys and pressing 'Enter'.
    • Alternatively you can press 'Ctrl' and '+' to increase the text size, 'Ctrl' and '-' to decrease the text size. 'Ctrl' and '0' returns you to the default 'normal' size.

    Follow these steps to set a minimum text size for all pages you visit:

    • Open the 'Tools' menu with the mouse or press 'Alt' + 'T'.
    • Click on 'Options', or press 'O', to open the Options dialog box.
    • Click the 'Content' tab or use the arrow keys until it is highlighted (in blue).
    • In the Fonts & Colours box click on 'Advanced', or press 'Alt' + 'D' , to open the 'Fonts' dialog box.
    • Click on 'Minimum font size' box or press 'Alt' + 'O'. Use the up and down arrows to select a new font size and press 'Enter'.
    • Click 'OK' button or press 'Enter'.
    • Click 'OK' button or tab to 'OK' button and press 'Enter'.

    Netscape

    To increase the text size:

    • Click on the 'View' menu with the mouse or pressing 'Alt' + 'V' .
    • Click on the 'Text Zoom' option with the mouse or press 'Z'.
    • Click on the text size you want with the mouse or use the up and down keys and then 'Enter' to select the text size you want.

    The text on our website should now have changed to reflect your choice. If you are using an earlier version of Netscape than version 7 then the above instructions will not work on some websites because they may have a fixed text size.

    You can also set a minimum font size for all the web pages you visit in your browser preferences as an alternative to using the 'Text Zoom' option:

    • Click on the 'Edit' menu with the mouse or press 'Alt' + 'E'.
    • Click on 'Preferences' or press 'E' to open the preferences dialog box.
    • Click on the 'Font' heading underneath the 'Appearance' category or use the arrow keys to select 'Font'.
    • Click on the drop down box next to 'Minimum font size:' and choose a font size by clicking on it or press the 'Tab' key until the box is highlighted, then press the up arrow to expand the list, choose a new font size by selecting the size you want with the 'up' and 'down' arrow keys and then press 'Enter'.
    • If there is a tick in the checkbox 'Allow documents to use other fonts' you might need to uncheck it for your minimum font size to work. To do this click on the box to uncheck it or press the 'Tab' key until the checkbox is highlighted and then press the 'Spacebar' to uncheck it.
    • Click 'OK' or press 'Enter' to return to Netscape.

    Opera 10

    In Opera you can quickly increase or decrease the size of both text and graphics using the Keyboard:

    • Press '+' to increase size and '-' to decrease text size. Each press will increase or decrease the size by 10%. Alternatively, press 'Alt' + 'V' to bring up the view menu and then press 'Z' to bring up the zoom options then use the up and down arrow keys to select the option you want followed by 'Enter'.

    These changes will have to be done each time you open Opera.

    To permanently increase or decrease the size of the text:

    • Click on the 'Tools' menu with the mouse and then click on 'Preferences' or press 'Ctrl' + 'F12'.
    • Click on the 'Web pages' tab with the mouse or press 'Ctrl' + 'Tab' to cycle through the tabs until 'Web pages' is selected.
    • Click on the 'Page Zoom' option box and select your zoom size or press the 'Tab' key twice to select the page zoom option box and use the up and down arrow keys to select your zoom size.
    • Click the 'OK' button or press 'Enter' to return to Opera.

    Apple Mac and MacOS:

    NOTE: Mac key convention: 'Ctrl' is used for 'Control', 'Apple' is used for 'Command' and 'Alt' is used for the 'Option' key.

    For keyboard access make sure 'Full keyboard access' is turned on - you can turn it on or off by pressing 'Ctrl' + 'F1' at any time.

    Safari

    Follow these steps to increase or decrease the size of the text for the web page you are viewing:

    • Click on the 'View' menu with the mouse.
    • Click on 'Make Text Bigger' or 'Make Text Smaller' to change the font size.

    To use keyboard shortcuts:

    • Increase or decrease the text size with 'Apple' and '+' and 'Apple' and '-'.

    If you want to set a larger text size for all the pages you visit:

    • Click on the 'Safari' menu with the mouse and then click on 'Preferences' or press 'Apple' + ',' (comma).
    • Click on the 'Appearance' icon or press 'Ctrl' + 'F5' to highlight the 'General' icon and then press the right arrow key to highlight 'Appearance' then press the 'Spacebar'.
    • Click on 'Select' next to 'Standard font:' box or press 'Tab' once to highlight the 'Select' button and then press the 'Spacebar'. This will bring up the 'Fonts' window.
    • Click on font size you want under the 'Sizes' heading or press 'Ctrl' + 'F6' then 'Ctrl' + 'F7' then 'Tab' twice to enter the 'Sizes' box were you can type in the font size you want and then press 'Enter'.
    • Click on the 'Fonts' box close button or press 'Esc'.
    • Click on the 'Appearance' window close button or press 'Esc' to return to Safari.

    On pages that support these features, the text size should now have changed.
