Make a difference — volunteers wanted for Council programs

Published on 05 February 2018

Glen Eira City Council is seeking volunteers for its Delivered Meals program and Volunteer Community Support program.

The Delivered Meals program offers a wide range of healthy meal choices to support frail older people and people with disabilities to live at home independently.

Meals are delivered by a dedicated group of volunteers who check in to monitor the health and wellbeing of clients. If any wellbeing concerns are identified they are followed up by committed staff.

The Volunteer Community Support program provides one-to-one volunteer support and friendship to frail aged and disabled residents of Glen Eira.

Volunteers assist with shopping, transport to local activities and appointments, writing letters and filling out forms, and most importantly they provide companionship and friendship.

A car and current license is essential, along with a minimum of five years driving experience.

As little as two or three volunteer hours, one or two days a week or fortnight, can contribute to the wellbeing of an older person or someone with a disability.

If you have a few hours to spare, enjoy the company of others and would like further information, contact Council’s Service Centre on 9524 3333.
