Free mulch is available to residents who use the bundled branch collection service. When booking a collection residents should advise Council they require mulch, and it will be left on the naturestrip. Council cannot guarantee the quality of the mulch.
Using mulch can help conserve water, shield your plants’ roots from temperature extremes and discourage the growth of weeds.
Council also has free mulch available for Glen Eira residents. The free mulch bay is located in Glen Huntly Park car park off Neerim Road Melway Ref: 68 E3, (near the corner of Booran and Neerim Roads)
Residents can access the facility for free seven days a week. The material is generally from the shredded prunings off park and street trees. Sometimes it is from other sources. The material is untreated. As the volume varies, Council cannot guarantee continuous supply.
Mulch is made from organic materials and contains living micro-organisms, including bacteria, fungi and protozoa. This product may also contain mineral and fertiliser additives.
Inhalation of dust and/or liquid mists may irritate, inflame or sensitise the nose, throat and lungs. This may result in illnesses ranging from hayfever or asthma to pneumonia (eg. Legionnaire’s disease) or pneumonia-like illnesses. Direct contact with this material or its dust and/or liquid mists (bioaerosols) may cause skin irritation (dermatitis), and skin or eye infection or irritation. People particularly at risk are those suffering from asthma or allergies and those whose immune defence systems are compromised.
