Business support strategy

We take a positive and proactive approach to business development throughout the City. The key points of our Business Development Strategy are to:

• build on the City’s existing strengths, and develop its local resources; 
• promote self-sufficiency among businesses; 
• enhance and promote shopping centre business precincts; and 
• create effective links to encourage business development.

We work with the private sector and other levels of government to achieve the outcomes identified in the strategy. We are committed to:

• assisting businesses in Glen Eira to work with each other and with Council; 
• forming strategic alliances and participating in joint ventures as deemed appropriate; 
• providing a leadership role for the community; 
• gathering vital information and disseminating it to businesses; 
• attracting new businesses which add value to the emerging economic profile of the City; 
• facilitating communication between businesses through business forums, networks, publications and Council’s website; 
• assisting business development through the discharge of Council’s regulatory responsibilities related to land use, planning, Local Law enforcement, and traffic management; and 
• improving the amenity of the City through effective development and maintenance of physical infrastructure.

Business development 

Council provides a key point of contact for all enquiries relevant to the business community, and is active within the business community.

Education and support 

We offer businesses education in the form of workshops and seminars and facilitates business networks, business development programs, business forums and community consultation. Council plays a proactive role in local business, business associations, and traders' groups.

We also play a strategic role in developing and maintaining strip shopping centres, helping business owners locate premises and expand their business, encouraging strategic alliances between business stakeholders and all business sectors.
