We operate a central enrolment system for four-year-old community based kindergartens in our Municipality. Kindergarten is also provided in community and privately managed children’s services, early learning centres and schools. The diverse needs of families are catered for in these services types.
Kindergarten is subsidised by the State government and all children are eligible to attend a funded program in the year before school entry.
We operate a central enrolment system for four year old community based kindergartens.
To assist with kindergarten readiness, please ensure your child has completed their three-and-a-half to four-year-old check at your local Maternal and Child Health centre before starting kindergarten.
An application for four-year-old kindergarten enrolment form needs to be filled in for each child and lodged with Glen Eira City Council, along with the non refundable enrolment fee of $20 per child.
Applications can be submitted online, in person or mailed to Council offices:
1 May 2010–30 April 2011
Applications are taken in date of receipt order from the first Monday in May. Places are offered by date of application (the time you lodge your application is not a factor) and where the number of applications received on the same day exceed places available, offers are then determined through a ballot.
Where there is pressure for places, priority will be given to people who live, work, study or have childcare in the City of Glen Eira. You may be required to provide proof of address.
Each service will have a policy or guideline to ensure that children with disabilities and/or additional needs are able to access kindergarten. The central enrolment form provides a place to indicate your child’s needs.
If your details or needs change you can fill in a kindergarten alteration form.

Please note that where a parent requests a change of preference without a change of address, the priority date the application will be based upon is the date the change of preference request was received by Glen Eira City Council.
First round offers are made in June each year, with second round offers occurring in July.
Parents are notified of their kindergarten by the committee of management. If your child does not obtain a place at the kindergarten of your first choice after two rounds of offers, you will be contacted and advised of waiting lists and vacancies.
Each service sets its own fee and parents should contact services to obtain this information.
