International Day of People with a Disability
For the past four years, Council celebrated International Day of People with a Disability by hosting a free activities day at Glen Eira Sports and Aquatic Centre. The annual celebration continues to be a success with many people joining in a wide variety of activities throughout the day including wheelchair balloon football, basketball, Swish, soccer, tennis, cricket, Zumba, circus skills and bowls.
Carers Week recognises the contribution that un-paid carers make to our community. metroaccess officers from Glen Eira and Port Phillip partnered with Commonwealth Respite and Carelink Centre Southern Region to host the day. Participants enjoyed drumming, singing, massage and guided meditation, as well as the chance to socialise with other carers.
Carers appreciate the chance to have a break from caring, have some fun and be pampered:
"Thank you very much for organising this event. I will remember it for a long time. It was just what I needed."
Scooter safety sessions
Over the last decade, the number of people using scooters to maintain their mobility and independence in the community has increased significantly. In response to this, metroaccess hosted several scooter safety information sessions to provide local residents with important information about assessment for correct scooter selection, maintenance, roads rules and etiquette. Future sessions will be advertised on this website.
