Social support

Our Social Support Program provides frail older people and people with disabilities with opportunities for friendship and social activities in a supportive environment.

The Program is available for:

  • frail older people and people with a disability; and
  • carers of the above.

Activities offered include:

  • gentle exercises;
  • relaxation;
  • music therapy;
  • drama;
  • creative art;
  • discussion groups;
  • cooking;
  • woodwork;
  • craft activities;
  • gardening; and
  • outdoor activities.

Transport to and from the centre can be arranged via our community bus or a taxi. Morning and afternoon tea and a hot lunch are provided each day.

The Program is designed each day to cater for the particular needs of the given group in attendance.

Service cost

A daily fee is charged for attendance. This fee includes transport; activities; lunch; and morning and afternoon tea.

Accessing the service

To access support for people aged 65 years and older contact My Aged Care. My Aged Care provides a clear entry point to the aged care system and is a key point of interaction with consumers including clients; carers; service providers; and health professionals.

Anyone can contact My Aged Care to find out how to access services, referrals or to seek help.

To be referred to Glen Eira City Council’s support services for the aged, contact My Aged Care on 1800 200 422 Monday to Friday, from 8am to 8pm and Saturday, 10am to 2pm or visit  www.myagedcare.gov.au

To access support for people aged less than 65, contact Council on 9524 3333 to confirm eligibility for services.

Funding is provided by the Australian Government’s Commonwealth Home Support Programme (CHSP) and Victorian Government’s Home and Community Care (HACC) program to assist Council in providing these services.
