Reminiscence is recognised as an important and therapeutic part of ageing. Through recalling past events, reminiscence encourages older adults to communicate and interact in a connective social activity.
Using a range of historical photographs and objects as trigger points for memories and discussion, a range of reminiscence boxes are now available for loan by aged care facilities and community groups in Glen Eira.
Objects and photographs can be touched, handled and passed around in a group setting and are designed for participants with a range of physical and cognitive abilities.
Box themes cover the period from 1930s to 1960s and include the following themes.
Games and entertainment
Do you remember playing with knuckle jacks and marbles? What other games do you play as a child? Borrow this box to bring it all back.
Events and celebrations
Do you recall the 1954 Royal visit of Queen Elizabeth II or even your own debutante ball? Revisit some special past events.
